Which Drug Should I Switch To?

Written by MWooten on January 30th, 2010

I have been taking Paxil for over 9 years and only now due to excessive weight gain am I deciding to switch to something else. I was prescribed Paxil for depression and severe anxiety. Unknowing to me, Paxil also helped me with my premature ejaculation problem. So basically I want to get something that does NOT cause weight gain yet still helps prolong ejaculation. In a perfect world I would not take any drugs, but I’m so anxious and depressed that I can’t function normally, and I haven’t heard of any success stories of curing premature ejaculation naturally. I’ve been looking at the following: Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Pristiq. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) in general are helpful in delaying ejaculation. Paxil is an SSRI. So is Zoloft. Other popular SSRIs include: Celexa, Lexapro, and Prozac.
Wellbutrin is one of the drugs with the least amount of side effects, for most people–and the least amount of sexual side effects. So I think that Wellbutrin would not be a good choice for you.
Paxil is indeed the SSRI that is known to cause the most weight gain. I think that Zoloft might be a good choice for you–it’s one of the SSRIs that is the least likely to make you gain weight.
